Which fish are the best to catch and eat in Cabo San Lucas?

UFC recommends you to eat and not eat.
Eat: Dorado, Mahi Mahi, Tuna, Snapper, Grouper, Marlin, Sailfish
Don't eat: Roosterfish, Bonita, other.

We UFC recommend and encourage catch and release with all fish.(Some of these fish may be endangered, but feel free to ask your captain about any fish you catch or are curious about.)

How much should I tip the fishing crew?

UFC recommends and encourages at least a 25% tip of your charter price. We truly appreciate all your support towards our crew members!

What month does the fishing season officially start?

The official fishing season is from November to March. However, UFC operates year-round, and we promise to give you, your friends, and your family the best experience possible in Cabo San Lucas any month of the year!

What do we do with the fish we catch on our fishing charter?

UFC recommends and encourages catch and release. However, if you prefer to keep a fish, there is either a cooler or a stow area to hold it until the end of your excursion.

Are we allowed to take pictures with the fish we catch?

UFC suggests asking your captain beforehand for permission, as the answer can vary by species. Be sure to follow the local regulations: be aware of any specific fishing regulations regarding photograph, catch and release policies, or protected species in the area, and always follow the rules set by local authorities!

How long is the full-day fishing trip versus a half-day trip?

The duration of a full-day fishing trip is eight hours long. A half-day fishing trip is between four to six hours.

Where should we go to get onboard at the marina?

The exact locations depend on your chosen boat, as they remain docked in different areas of Cabo Marina. We will contact your group with further information on how to get to the correct dock 48 hours before your charter.

Can we take the fish we catch back with us?

UFC recommends catch and release as certain species of fish are endangered. Depending on the fish, you can ask your captain if you can take it with you.

Where can we buy live bait?

Once you have left the marina, there will be a smaller boat driving around selling bait. UFC recommends bringing some cash to pay for bait. If you prefer to use lures, we have them on board as well. (Some packages include live bait)

Is this a kid-friendly activity?

Absolutely! Fishing in Cabo is a kid-friendly activity, and we provide life jackets for children who may need them. However, we recommend half-day charters for small children.

How many people are we allowed to have onboard during our charter?

One price is for all. That being said, each boat has a maximum passenger capacity. This number will vary for the size of the boat.

How far out of the marina will we go to fish?

There is a protected area that runs from the Pacific Ocean down to the Sea of Cortez about two miles out of the marina. That being said, you will go between 10 and 25 miles out. On a full-day charter, you may go as far as 40 miles. UFC does not go out further. Excursions may differ due to weather and water conditions.

How many fish are we allowed to keep?

Due to fishing regulations, you may ask your captain beforehand. While we always recommend catch and release, many guests prefer to take some catches with them. However, you must check with your captain to ensure the species are not endangered.

Should we bring food and beverages with us?

UFC does not provide food and beverages. However, there is a market in the marina where you can purchase water, alcohol, sports drinks, and energy drinks. They offer some chips, fruit, and sandwiches. You may also bring your food and beverages as well.

Do I need to purchase a fishing permit to fish in Cabo?

Yes. We will give you all the necessary information once you start booking.

Does our fishing crew have Dramamine for seasickness?

Yes, we do have Dramamine on every boat! This resource is accessible to you at any time needed. Please, just ask a crew member. Our crew is very experienced and will do their best to take care of any sick guests!

Are we allowed to go in the marina before our time frame is up if we would like?

Yes, if there is any emergency or you and your guests would like to go in, you may do so at any time.

How many crew members will be onboard with us during our charter?

Most UFC fishing boats will have a captain and sailor. Some of the bigger boats may have more sailors as needed.

How many fishing rods will be available for us to use during our charter?

Each of the UFC boats has provided fishing gear and equipment. Most boats will have a minimum of eight fishing rods or more.

Will we be using live bait or fake bait to fish? May I choose which one I prefer?

Yes, UFC provides all the equipment for lures and fake bait. If you and your guest want to use live bait, that is an option as well (You may purchase live bait on the charter at the beginning. The people selling the fish take CASH ONLY).

Should I bring cash?

UFC recommends bringing cash for all charters for tips and live bait. The Market where you may purchase food and beverage takes cash or card.
