DORADO
Dorados are often mistaken for Mahi Mahi, but they have some essential differences setting them apart. Dorados will frequently jump out of the water and have subdued gold or silver coloring, unlike Mahi Mahi. While both species are 1 meter in length, Dorado are smaller, weighing between 5 and 20 pounds.
MAHI MAHI
Mahi Mahi typically weigh between 15 and 30 pounds and are approximately 1 meter long. They have long dorsal fins extending from their head to tail. Plus, their bright multi-colored appearance features bold shades of blue, green, and yellow. These unique features make Mahi Mahi eye-catching and make them an exciting catch!
YELLOWFIN TUNA
Yellowfin Tuna, also known as ahi tuna, are easily identified by their bright yellow tails. These impressive creatures reach about 6 feet in length and can weigh up to 440 pounds. Due to their notable size, vibrant tails, and substantial weight, Yellowfin Tuna is a fascinating species to catch while fishing in Cabo.
STRIPED MARLIN
Striped Marlin can weigh anywhere from 50 to 300 pounds and typically reach 12 feet in length. Their lifespan is around ten years. They have striped patterns and a distinct blue fin, giving them an easily identifiable appearance. There is no doubt the Striped Marlin is a notable and intriguing catch during Cabo fishing charters with UFC!
SIERRA SPANISH MACKEREL
Sierra Spanish mackerel are known for their impressive speed, strength, and fighting prowess. These fish typically weigh around 13 pounds and can live up to 12 years in the Sea of Cortez. Their distinctive appearance features a greenish back and silver sides, which makes them stand out to many guests who join us on fishing excursions in Cabo San Lucas.
BLUE MARLINS
Blue Marlins can reach an average size of 11 feet and have the potential to grow up to 14 feet. They can weigh between 200 and 400 pounds and have a striking cobalt-blue coloring with silvery-white undersides. Female Blue Marlins tend to grow significantly larger than males, making them the bigger catch on fishing excursions in Cabo San Lucas.
BLACK MARLINS
The Black Marlin usually measures around 15 feet in length and weighs between 400 to 600 pounds. However, there have been cases of some Black Marlins weighing up to 1,000 pounds! These fish are easily distinguished by their dark blue, black, and silver colors. Interestingly, all Black Marlins are born female. These unique characteristics make the Black Marlin a thrilling catch and one of the most incredible fish in the Sea of Cortez!
SAILFISH
Sailfish have a relatively short lifespan, lasting about four years. They range from 5.7 to 11 feet and typically weigh between 120 and 220 pounds. Sailfish have a distinctive coloration, featuring a dark blue hue along the upper half of their bodies, fading to brownish-blue on the sides and culminating in a silver-white shade on their bellies.
WAHOO FISH
Wahoo Fish have a blue-green upper body and a silver underbelly. They are known for their long, slender appearance. Many reach an average length of eight feet and weigh 180 pounds on average. Plus, Wahoo Fish holds the notable distinction of being the fourth fastest fish in the world!
SWORDFISH
Named after their distinct long, flat, pointed bill, many believe swordfish resemble a sword. They can weigh anywhere from 50 to 200 pounds on average, and their length usually falls around 10 feet. Not to mention, Swordfish can swim up to 62 miles per hour! It's no wonder that swordfish are such an alluring species for many fishermen.
